CNN.net, CNN’s parent company, is being trashed by the Internet as the site has been overrun by fake news and bots.
The site is down to one user per post on the CNN.org homepage, and as of Sunday morning, it is now listed at 2,000 registered users.
It’s unclear whether this is because the site is so overrun by bots or the site itself is bot-infected.
However, CNN is trying to make a comeback on Facebook, where it is listed at over 100 million fans, according to Buzzfeed.
“CNN.com is experiencing some issues with a large number of bots and spam accounts that have attempted to hijack our content and traffic,” the news outlet said in a statement on Sunday.
“We have confirmed this is happening and are working to address it as quickly as possible.”
CNN also said in the statement that it has been contacted by “some of the most aggressive users of our site,” including “a large number” of bots.
“These bots are trying to gain control of the network, and we are working around the clock to try to fix them,” the site said.
“Unfortunately, this does not make the network any safer or more secure.
Com will continue to monitor the situation and take additional steps if necessary.”
CNN said that its team is “working around theclock to address” the problem.
It also said that it is working with Facebook to identify the source of the issue.
“For those that are having issues on Facebook or elsewhere, we encourage you to visit the CNN Bots page for help,” the outlet said.
